Former Real Madrid player Raúl González weighed in on the debate surrounding the most important figures in the history of Real Madrid's goalkeeping , Iker Casillas and Thibaut Courtois .
"Casillas is a Real Madrid legend. Courtois is doing very well, he's doing great things and time will put each one in his place, but Iker is much better ," Raúl González assured the media during the Nacex Padel Challenge between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona legends, held at the Pádel G24 club in Arroyomolinos, Madrid.
Asked about the Clásico, which will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium this Sunday at 4:15 p.m., the Madrid native assessed the current form of both teams, which "arrive at their best," although he downplayed the importance of it for the match. " It doesn't matter how we arrive; it's always a special match. I think Real Madrid, playing at home and with their fans in front of them, are slightly the favorites, but they're going to face two great teams with great players," he noted.
"It's a game everyone will be watching, and I'm already looking forward to Sunday so we can enjoy this great match. We're all excited to see what happens on Sunday, and I'm sure the match won't disappoint, and we'll enjoy it," he added.
Raúl González also gave his opinion on how he sees the start to the season for the new Real Madrid team, now managed by Xabi Alonso, whom he considers "a great coach." "The team is starting off, and I'm sure the results will come little by little," he commented. He also hopes Real Madrid "scores one more goal than Barcelona" this Sunday. "I'm happy with that," he concluded.
Finally, he also spoke about FC Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, whom he described as "a great player who is breaking many barriers." "On the pitch, he's doing things that very few have done; he's very young, and now he has to consolidate all of that. I think he can be a very important player for his club right now and also for the Spanish national team," he concluded.
